Who on their right minds would call a German Super SUV Brimmed to its last bolt of excruciatingly over engineered technology more reliable than the lightweight, basically equipped Toyota Co-Developed Sports car? Our Buddies at Consumer Reports thats who!
Yes, the same people that !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! mentioned in their handy 2014 Buyers guide a Big Black Dot of Doom to the Subaru BRZ in "Predicted Reliability". Whilst the Cayenne fared much better with only a half blacked dot.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I don't know if they really think the Cayenne is going to be more reliable than the Subaru, but it surprised me quite a lot.

only time will tell. I don't see it personally.

Even if the Cayenne is more reliable, Porsche repair costs are much higher. Ask anyone with a late-nineties/early-2000s IMS failure.

Neither do I. Not in a million moons.

I think I would rather take the BRZ. I am not a huge fan of large vehicles.

Not surprising. Porsche gets out of its slump, starts making awesome cars again, and...uh, let's not count the 991 GT3s.
I've seen plenty of Subies go boom on track. Lots of fun right 'til then. Still, their NA engines tend to be a little heartier somehow. It is a new design, though, so eh. Shakin' out the bugs, I guess.
tl;dr: I need a tow Cayenne.

Exactly. A relative has a 2004 one, and when she first wanted to show me the air suspension lifting and hunching down, it broke.

Consumer Reports has always been kind of a mixed bag. They only take a limited amount of variables into account, usually ones only applicable to the first few years of ownership.

Does not surprise me in the slightest. One of them will be driven to and from the hairdresser's, the other will be hooned mercilessly by inexperienced millenials. Even if the BRZ/FR-S had greater overall reliability it's still going to break more often just because of the type of driving and owner that it attracts.

A lot of people who buy the Toyobaru drive it real hard. That's the kind of buyers it attracts, which, incidentally, makes me pretty pessimistic about the used market a few years down the road. Who drives his Cayenne hard? Yeah, sure, there's that one guy.

people who buy cars for reliability buy toyotas... that should tell you something about reliability ratings.

Being a new model is against the Subaru, but WORST reliability?

People who have them down the line for 5 or more years are more accurate it would seem

Very good point. I even wonder if the really fast Cayennes are driven with more than mid-throttle.

It seems this will be one damn hard car to find unmodified in the used market.

So what are you going to buy with 20K?

Honestly, I'm pretty sure 90% of cars in general are never driven at more than half throttle. Most people seem to have an active fear of letting the engine on their car rev out.

Thanks! I have to sell Oliver still though, which is becoming hard.
The Polo GTI has red accents, and I dont want a faux GTI.
